Cancel Your Slack Subscription

These steps work for workspace owners with direct Slack billing. Your process may vary if you're billed through a third party or reseller.

01

Sign in to your workspace

Go to your Slack workspace and sign in. You'll need workspace owner permissions to access billing settings and cancel the subscription.

02

Open workspace settings

Click your workspace name in the top left, then select Settings & administration and click Workspace settings.

03

Navigate to billing

In the settings menu, find and click Billing. This will take you to your subscription and payment details page.

04

Cancel your plan

Look for Cancel plan or Downgrade to free option. Click it and follow the prompts to confirm your cancellation.

05

Slack-specific things to know

Slack billing works differently depending on your role and plan type. These details can affect your cancellation process.

Only workspace owners can cancel
Regular members and guests can't access billing settings. If you're not an owner, you'll need to ask your workspace admin to cancel or transfer ownership to you first.
Annual plans charge upfront
Slack's annual subscriptions are paid in advance with no refunds for unused time. Monthly plans are generally more flexible for cancellation timing.
Message history has limits on free
Downgrading to Slack's free plan limits your visible message history to 10,000 recent messages. Older messages aren't deleted but become inaccessible.

Before you cancel, keep this in mind

These points can help you avoid issues with your Slack cancellation or find better alternatives.

1. Check who's actually paying

If your company or another department pays for Slack, cancelling might affect other team members. Verify billing ownership before making changes to avoid disrupting others' work.

2. Export important data first

Consider exporting important conversations, files, and integrations before cancelling. While data persists during the billing period, it's easier to export while you still have paid features.

3. Review your integrations

Slack integrations with other tools may stop working after cancellation. Check which apps and workflows depend on your paid Slack plan and plan alternatives.

Consider these alternatives

If you're cancelling due to cost or team size changes, these options might work better than cancelling completely.

Downgrade your Slack plan

Slack offers multiple pricing tiers including a free plan. You might be able to downgrade instead of cancelling completely.

  • Free: Up to 10,000 recent messages, 10 apps and integrations

  • Pro: Unlimited message history, unlimited apps, guest access

  • Business+: Advanced security, compliance features, 24/7 support

Switch Your Billing Cycle

Slack offers both monthly and annual billing with significant savings on annual plans.

Negotiate a Deal

Cancel Slack through a third party

If you don't see billing options in your workspace settings, your Slack subscription might be managed through one of these providers instead.
