Important Grammarly details

Grammarly subscriptions can work differently depending on your plan or how you signed up. These tips cover common edge cases.

Premium features end immediately
Unlike some services, Grammarly's premium features stop working right after cancellation, even if you've paid for the full billing period.
Annual plans don't prorate refunds
If you cancel an annual Grammarly plan mid-cycle, you typically won't receive a refund for unused months unless within the trial period.
Free account remains active
Cancelling your premium subscription doesn't delete your account. You'll still have access to Grammarly's basic free features and your document history.

Before you cancel, keep this in mind

These details can affect your cancellation timing or whether it goes through properly.

1. Check who's billing you

Look at your recent charges to see if you're billed by Grammarly directly or through Apple, Google Play, or another provider. You'll need to cancel through whoever is charging you.

2. Your access continues until billing period ends

After cancelling, you can still use Grammarly Premium until your current billing period expires. The service won't cut off immediately upon cancellation.

3. Deleting the app doesn't cancel

Removing Grammarly from your devices or browser doesn't cancel your subscription. You'll continue being charged until you properly cancel through your account or billing provider.

Other options to consider

If cost is the issue, you might be able to downgrade to a cheaper plan instead of cancelling completely.

Downgrade to Grammarly Free

Grammarly offers a free tier with basic grammar and spell checking. It's a good middle ground if you don't need advanced features like tone detection or plagiarism checking.

  • Grammarly Free - Basic grammar and spelling checks

  • Grammarly Premium - Advanced suggestions, tone detection, vocabulary enhancement

  • Grammarly Business - Team features and brand tone guides

Switch Your Billing Cycle

Grammarly offers both monthly and annual billing options, with annual plans typically offering significant savings.

Annual plans can save up to 40% compared to monthly billing

More ways to cancel

If you can't cancel through your Grammarly account, you may need to go through app stores or third-party providers. The right option depends on how you're being billed.

Apple App Store

For iOS app subscriptions, cancellation must be done through your iPhone or iPad's App Store subscription settings, not Grammarly's website.

Google Play Store

If you subscribed to Grammarly through the Android app, you'll need to cancel through Google Play Store instead of your Grammarly account.
