Every band is a fixed share of the Band D charge, set in law and the same across every council. The band itself comes from your home's estimated open-market value on 1 April 1991, not today's price. In England, Band C covers homes valued at £52,001 to £68,000 on that date.

It is also worth checking your band is right, because a wrong band means a wrong bill for as long as it stands.
