Kindle Unlimited-specific things to know

A few things that might affect your Kindle Unlimited cancellation or save you money.

Your books stay for 30 days
After cancelling, you can still read downloaded Kindle Unlimited books for 30 days. After that, they'll be removed from your device.
Cancel anytime during free trial
If you're on a free trial, you can cancel immediately after signing up and still get the full trial period without being charged.
Check for pause option first
Amazon sometimes offers a pause option for 1-3 months instead of full cancellation. This might show up during the cancellation process.

Before you cancel, keep this in mind

These details can affect your cancellation timing or whether it goes through properly.

1. Check who's billing you

If you signed up through Apple, Google Play, or another retailer, you won't see a cancel option in your Amazon account. You'll need to cancel through them instead.

2. You keep access until period ends

Cancelling doesn't immediately remove access. You can continue reading Kindle Unlimited books until your current billing period expires.

3. Deleting the Kindle app doesn't cancel

Removing the Kindle app from your phone or tablet doesn't cancel your subscription. You need to cancel through your account settings or the app store.

Alternatives to cancelling your subscription

If you're cancelling due to cost or not reading enough, you might be able to pause your subscription instead.

Pause your Kindle Unlimited membership

Amazon sometimes offers the option to pause your membership for 1-3 months instead of cancelling completely. This keeps your reading progress and recommendations while stopping billing temporarily.

Share Your Plan

Kindle Unlimited can be shared within Amazon Household (up to 2 adults and 4 children). If you're paying alone, adding family members can split the cost effectively.

Check for Bundles

Kindle Unlimited is often bundled with Amazon Prime or offered as part of device purchase promotions.

  • Amazon Prime membership deals

  • Kindle device purchase promotions

  • Fire tablet bundle offers

Alternative ways to cancel Kindle Unlimited

If you can't cancel through your Amazon account, you may need to go through app stores. The right option depends on how you're being billed.
