iCloud+ is tied directly to your Apple ID and renews automatically. Family organizers control shared plans, so individual family members can't cancel those subscriptions. Check if you're on a family plan first.

iCloud+-specific things to know

iCloud+ subscriptions have a few unique behaviors that might affect your cancellation timing.

Family plans need organizer to cancel
If you're on a family iCloud+ plan, only the family organizer can cancel. Individual members will see the subscription but can't modify it.
Your data stays for 30 days
After cancelling, your iCloud+ storage downgrade won't happen immediately. You have 30 days to download data before it's potentially deleted.
Privacy features stop at renewal
Private Relay, Hide My Email, and other iCloud+ exclusive features will stop working when your subscription ends, even if you have storage space.

Before you cancel, keep this in mind

These points can help you avoid losing access to important data or features unexpectedly.

1. Download data if over free limit

If you're using more than 5GB of iCloud storage, download photos and documents before cancelling or you may lose access to them.

2. Note which apps use iCloud+

Check which apps depend on iCloud+ features like Private Relay or advanced security. Some functionality may stop working after cancellation.

3. Check family sharing status

Verify whether you're the family organizer or just a member. Only organizers can cancel family iCloud+ plans for everyone.

Other options to consider

If the cost is the issue, you might be able to downgrade to a smaller plan instead of cancelling completely.

Downgrade your iCloud+ plan

Apple offers multiple storage tiers. You might find a smaller plan that still meets your needs without cancelling entirely.

  • 50GB for $0.99/month

  • 200GB for $2.99/month

  • 2TB for $9.99/month

Share Your Plan

Family sharing lets up to 6 people share iCloud+ storage, making the cost per person much lower than individual plans.

Check for Bundles

iCloud+ storage is often included in Apple One bundles with Music, TV+, and other services, which can be more cost-effective.

  • Apple One Individual ($19.95/month)

  • Apple One Family ($25.95/month)

  • Apple One Premier ($37.95/month)

Alternative ways to cancel iCloud+

If you can't access your iPhone settings, you can cancel through these alternative methods depending on your setup.

Website

You can manage iCloud+ subscriptions through the Apple ID website if you don't have access to your devices.
